Have you just bought a car to use for your driving lessons? Or perhaps you bought one ready for when you pass your driving test? The chances are; your car will soon start to look dirty and dusty as time goes on.
And the more time that you spend driving your car, the less it will have that showroom shine! Does your car look like it hasn’t had a wash in years? If so, it’s time to do something about it. If you don’t mind getting stuck in, you can give your car a makeover. Intrigued? Here’s how!
Remove your rubbish
The first thing to do is to get a bin bag and throw any rubbish that is inside of your car into it! A car interior that resembles the contents of your wheelie bin won’t make for enjoyable driving. And people will find excuses not to travel with you once you have passed your test.
Old, rotting rubbish can also have a negative impact on your health too. Any remnants of food will spoil and become mouldy. You might not know this, but mould is bad news for people that suffer from asthma. And if you don’t have asthma, it can be a trigger that causes you to have it!
Clean your interior
Now that you have removed all rubbish from inside of your car, it’s time to clean it. Use your household vacuum cleaner on the carpets and upholstery. Be sure to use the special nozzles for those hard-to-reach areas, such as between the car seats and in the footwells.
If there are any stains on your car’s carpets and upholstery, you can use upholstery cleaner to get rid of them. I once bought a used car that had a cream interior, and there were oil stains on the carpet. Upholstery cleaner made the stains vanish, and the carpet looked like new.
Finally, don’t forget to use some glass cleaner on those windows!
Wash the exterior
I recommend using a pressure washer to clean your car’s exterior. It’s quicker than using buckets of water or even a garden hose. And it will blast away any ingrained dirt with ease!
You can even use your pressure washer on your alloy wheels as it is quite effective at removing brake dust. If your pressure washer has a shampoo bottle, you can use some car shampoo or snow foam. If your car is quite dirty, you might need to wash it twice.
If you want to be a perfectionist, you should also remove the number plates so that you can clean behind them too.
Once you have washed your car, you can use something called a “clay bar” to remove any dirt particles that are stuck to the paintwork. That process can take a while, but the results will be worth it when your car’s bodywork feels silky smooth!
Don’t forget to polish and wax your car’s bodywork afterwards! Finally, for extra brownie points you can add some tyre shine to your tyres. Now your car will look amazing!
